about this painting :
my grandmother for some reason had a lemon tree in her house.
as a kid, i remember it being super cool and special. As i got older, you learn more about family. the dynamics. the good. the bad. the really bad. I created the crying tiger to represent strength, curiosity, innocence and confidence. Strong enough to fight and kill, courageous enough to find empathy. Wise enough to know that all kindness is not done in good faith. Maybe it’s a little heavy - but it tells the story of the complexity of families. How everything about them is perfectly imperfect. Perfectly balanced, yet completely unhinged. If the lemons in my grandmothers could talk, what stories could they tell ?
